Stopped by this place on our way to Yellowstone. Ordered shrimp linguine with Alfredo sauce, which was less than average with tiny baby shrimps - should not have expected better in a remote location. Probably should have ordered local favorites - giant sized chicken fried, mashed potatoes and gravy. But service was nice and courteous.
MoreNice diner with huge plates of food! It is a little on the expensive side, but you get a ton of food and it's worth it. We have stopped by here a couple times at the recommendation of my wife's Grandpa, who eats here weekly. If you stop in, I recommend the Diesel Dave burger or anything that comes with a scone. The scones are HUGE and delicious! The bathrooms have always been clean and they always have a laid back atmosphere. Just a nice little old diner. We joke they named this place after my wife's grandpa and his friend named Lou because they eat here so often.
MoreMa and Pa type place, totally old school. Country cooking. Pretty good and way creaky floors. Kinda fun.
MoreGreat service, great food, friendly people. Would recommend stopping there if you can.
MoreGreat portion sizes and very tasty food. Convenient right off the freeway exit 13 in Malad City Idaho. If you like scones this is the place. They take up an entire plate just themselves. Did I mention the portions were generous?
MoreHome town feeling, fantastic service, wonderful food :)
We have been going to this place for years . It’s was a fun monthly road trip to go on with my husband brother and his wife. But after last night will never go back ,there sign says they stay open until 9 but we showed up at 8:25 and they already had everything put away and was out of most everything we wanted to get. The staff made us feel very unwelcome. If your going to put everything away that soon you mite as well close at 8 instead of nine. We ended up just down the road at another restaurant that closed at nine as well but they where very happy to wait on us and everything was available on the menu . This will be are new restaurant from now on.
MoreWe were at this restaurant for a breakfast. Greeted and sat down. A guy got us our drinks and took our order. Two simple Ham and Cheese Omelettes. He said it will be a few, really busy. Never seen the guy except walking around again. After 45 minutes I walked to this guy. Asked about our breakfast. He stated there were 8 tickets ahead of ours and our would be about 3 or 4 more minutes. 10 minutes later we observed four Breakfast plates with Omelettes come out of the kitchen and go to a table that had been sat 20 minutes after we had arrived. So after 55 minutes and 1 drink each we left! Heard the guy say he and his wife were buying this restaurant! Well, he will not succeed if it continues this way!
MoreAmazing people that work here! They were so friendly, especially to our children. We'll be stopping back here again!
MoreScones were really good, but everything else was sub-par. Food, service, prices, small water cups, etc. If you go, just get something simple like a sandwich or salad. Half of my group also had some stomach issues after our meal.
MoreReally good food and service, so sad to see them closing on 1/20/19
Pretty good food, not inexpensive, service could have been better.
Loved the laid back family restraunt. No hurry up and wait. All the staff we encountered were just so friendly and kind. Our server was a nice young lad. Very friendly and was a wonderful person. Love little mom and pop places like these. Makes you feel like your home with family. Our food was wonderful !!! Great portions.
MorePoor service, waitress was clueless about the menu/specials. Food fairly priced but mediocre, salad bar had nothing but lettuce, garbanzo beans, cheese, olives, beets and cottage cheese. Prime rib sandwich was actually roast beef with can gravy on two slices of white bread (supposed to be a roll), no seasoning or other veggies. Friend ordered a Reuben which was decent.
MoreWe had a wonderful meal, and fabulous service at this quant and friendly restaurant. They gave us a lot of food for the price. The scones are the best I've EVER had. Thank you Gloria for taking such good care of us, Friday, July 6th, 2018. I'll be back!
MoreThe scones with raspberry honey was amazing!!! The service was nice and personable. great time! I'll be coming by every time I drive down from Idaho to Salt Lake.
MoreAlways stop here after buying lottery tickets. Good service and super tasty scones and cornbread. Home style cooking that would satisfy anyone.
MoreBest little place for breakfast! Good place to stop on our journeys north. Right off I-15. Space for trucks to park. Food, service, and atmosphere are great. Portions are big, and prices are very reasonable. Overall great place!
MoreGood service, nice atmosphere. Food was good, but not the kind you shout the praises of from a mountain top. Also didn't have my first two choices for pie as dessert, which was unfortunate, but not really the reason for the four stars, it just kind of clinched it. Overall pleasant though and I would stop by again if I was in that neck of the woods.
MoreThe service was very good, and the food was good I had a Reuben sandwich and the portion was huge .
MoreWas a nice place. Friendly workers made you feel welcome. Good food.
Great service, amazing food for what you pay, and super cute set up
My family and I stopped at this little restaurant on our way to Salt Lake City. It was a wonderful find late on a Sunday evening. They have large portions, a wide variety, and delicious home cooking. Thank you for comfort food!
MoreGreat place to stop and eat. Great service and food.
Bad food WAY overpriced with lousy service. Biggest waste of time, and money in a long time!
MorePretty great food, nice little diner!
To expensive. I use to stop here on my way to Utah. Prices used to be good now the menu is revamped. Malad has better choices.
MoreWe are so sad that Me n Lou's will be closing on January 20th 2019. We drive up from Salt Lake to have lunch and have had great service and delicious food over many years. This is the only restaurant that makes me feel like I am part of the family. I have met all the employees and their children and they are all great. We are going to greatly miss this great little place.
MoreI always try and visit this place when I'm in town. Every single time I do it never disappoints. The scones are really good and can feed maybe two to three people, but I always get one for myself and take it with.
MoreStopped by for breakfast. We had been there before a year ago and the food and service were okay - the scones were really great. We ordered basic breakfasts and waited 35 minutes with only two other tables in the restaurant. No one said a word about the delay or why it would take so much time to make pancakes, eggs and bacon. Food finally came. Pancakes were small and thin. Hasbrowns were warm but not browned. Much different than we saw when we walked in. Also bland. Expectations weren’t high but this was terrible food and service. We heard there was a new owner. It’s not the same and not worth visiting.
MoreWe were first time visitors here. Very friendly staff. They treated you like a "regular" customer.Food was very good. A tad pricey but, generous portions. We highly recommend this restaurant if you're visiting Malad City Idaho.😊👍👍👍
MoreMy wife and I stopped her on our way to Idaho Falls and ordered just about the heartiest, warmest breakfast we’d had in a long while. Great food, service was excellent, and ambiance was adorable and comfortable.
MoreBeen eating here for quite some time. Food is excellent. I travel 300 miles just to eat here.
MoreA little mom & pop type diner. Nothing fancy, but really good.
Fast service and pretty good good the waitress was very attentive. Just driving through for a bite to eat. Breakfast was delish
MoreTruly a lot of great food. Wonderful people, friendly and great. The price is reasonable and I love eating here.
MoreOne of the best places I've ever ate at. The food was fresh and had a home cooked meal taste. The service was excellent. Any time I am passing through Idaho, I will be stopping here.
MoreMe-N-Lou's has the best scones in Eastern idaho! I can't find anywhere else that even compares to their size and flavor. I always make a point to stop by when I'm traveling past Malad. It's right off the freeway too! So perfect!
MoreGood selection of rather average diner food. The mashed potatoes are hearty, and I hear the scones are great. My medium steak was overcooked, but not enough to make an issue of it. It is definitely a solid option if passing through, but not a hidden gem.
MoreGreat people and food. Family run and huge portions. Stay 5 days to hunt and ate 2x a day. Get the scone with raspberry honey. Loved this place. For people from Texas, chicken fried steak come with brown gravy at nite so be sure to specify cream gravy. If you're in the area, this is a must stop place to eat. Texas bunch.
MoreService was ok at best, the food was very generic. The atmosphere was kind off odd and price was too high.
MoreI love their breakfast ! Great restaurant ! My favorite Place to eat !
What a cute little place! It felt very much like home and the service was great. The price may seem high to some, but considering most of the food seems to be hand made to order, I think the price was just right. The breakfast food was incredible and their scones are to die for! I wasn't impresses with the chicken strips, but would gladly go back to try more food options.
MoreFriendly service and home made food w/small town feel.
The food is way overpriced and the service is awful, I cant Express how awful the service is. Price I can get over bad service I can not.
MoreMy prime rib tasted like it was old, and my kids wouldn't eat the Alfredo sauce (they love Alfredo). Pretty disappointing. Good scones though.
MoreWant good food in a friendly atmosphere? This is the place.
While traveling stopped by for lunch. Definitely a good place to eat if you like to eat. We stopped there after cruzing the town a bit getting gas. It had a busiest parking lot. I wasn't that hungry so ordered smallest looking item on the menu, a sandwich and opted for a trip to salad bar instead of fries. Some of the plates walking by were of generous portions. BLT was good, salad bar was iceberg based and wife's soup was good.
MoreWorst service I can ever remember having. The server literally ignored us, while walking past our table, for 37 minutes before just acknowledging us (with an attitude)... another table of 4 came in and waited for about 25 minutes and she did the same thing ... there are too many problems to list here... you get the point...
MoreWe've stopped here (and plan to stop more) a few times. We like to find random diners and try new things. The food was delicious and just what you'd expect. What was not expected was the size of the scones. Enormous! And they tasted great as well. The servers are delightful and take pride in their small town diner. Delicious home-style food like: omelettes, sandwiches, pancakes, steak, burgers, burritos etc. Probably the only down fall is the decor. The dark green paint adds to how already dark it is inside and a few things look as if they are trying a little too hard; however, this does not take away from the amazing food that you can get from this Diner. If you are passing through Malad City at any point, it might be wise to hold off on a meal until you get here when you plan your trip.
